Indestructible
When The One Ring enters, if you cast it, you gain protection from everything until your next turn.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life for each burden counter on The One Ring.
T: Put a burden counter on The One Ring, then draw a card for each burden counter on The One Ring.
Mox strategy
The One Ring is a premier value engine and one of the strongest standalone artifacts in Eternal formats.
Primary strengths: it gives a full turn of protection from everything when cast, which can buy huge tempo against combat, burn, combo, or targeted interaction. After that, it turns every upkeep into a scaling card-draw engine that quickly buries opponents in raw resources.
Best use cases: control, midrange, and combo decks that can protect themselves for a turn and then leverage extra cards. It is especially strong in shells that want to reset the game state, survive pressure, or assemble combos with abundant draw.
Key synergies: untap effects and artifact recursion let you activate it more times; proliferation and counter-doubling effects can make burden counters and draw snowball hard; life gain helps offset the upkeep drain; blinking or copying effects can sometimes exploit the cast trigger or generate additional value depending on the deck.
Gameplay mechanics it supports: burst protection, repeatable card advantage, artifact-based engines, and resource-race inevitability. Practical tip: cast it when you can immediately stabilize or when the extra cards will matter most, because the burden counters become dangerous if you fail to convert the draw into a win.
