• All creatures get -1/-1 until end of turn.
• Target player reveals their hand. You choose an artifact or creature card from it. That player discards that card.
Mox strategy
Poison the Waters is a flexible early-game black sorcery that either acts as a small sweeper or a selective discard spell. Its main strength is tempo: it can clean up x/1s and x/2s in aggressive formats, or strip an important artifact or creature from a key card in hand. It’s best when your deck wants a cheap interactive spell that can fill multiple roles.
It gets stronger with effects that care about discard, graveyards, or “each opponent” pressure in multiplayer, though the discard mode only hits one player. The -1/-1 mode is especially useful alongside deathtouch, combat tricks, or decks trying to soften the board for attacks. It supports attrition gameplay, punishing token decks, and early disruption.
Practical tip: play it when your metagame has lots of small creatures or key artifact/creature threats in hand; it’s usually better as a utility card than as a standalone answer.
