Inquisition of Kozilek is one of the best cheap hand-disruption spells for black decks, especially in Modern, Legacy, and other low-curve formats. Its main strength is efficiency: for one mana, it strips away early interaction, combo pieces, removal, or key threats before they can matter.
It’s strongest in proactive midrange, tempo, and disruption-heavy decks that want to clear the way for threats or protect their own game plan. It’s especially good on turn 1, when it can hit a huge portion of most decks’ hands.
Best synergies are with discard-matters cards and graveyard/value engines like Waste Not, The Rack, smallpox-style shell, and effects that reward forcing discards or checking opponent hand size. It also combines well with Thoughtseize and similar effects to create a dense disruption package.
Mechanically, it supports hand information, targeted discard, and tempo advantage. Its limitation is the mana value 3 or less restriction, so it misses bigger finishers and top-end spells, but that’s usually acceptable because it excels at trading up on efficiency.
