Hum of the Radix

Hum of the Radix is a strong sideboard-style tax piece against artifact-heavy decks. It shines when opponents are trying to flood the board with cheap artifacts, Treasure, or artifact combo pieces, and it can buy a lot of time against decks that rely on chaining multiple artifacts in one turn. Its best use cases are in green-based midrange, prison, or enchantment-focused decks that can protect a proactive board state while slowing opponents down. It’s especially annoying against artifact swarm strategies, Breya-style shells, and decks that want to deploy several artifacts before comboing. Key synergy is with other taxing effects like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Collector Ouphe-style pressure, since stacking taxes can make artifact spells essentially uncastable. It also pairs well with enchantment tutors and recursion, since it’s a static hate piece that can come down early and warp the game. Mechanically, it supports resource denial and tempo advantage by scaling its tax with the number of artifacts already controlled, which punishes both wide artifact boards and late-game artifact sequencing.
