Undying (When this creature dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a +1/+1 counter on it.)
Mox strategy
Geralf's Messenger is a strong aggressive black creature that provides guaranteed damage on entry and a resilient body thanks to undying. Its main strength is that it delivers 5 total power across two bodies for 3 mana if it dies once, making it excellent in sacrifice, aristocrats, and grindy midrange decks.
Best synergies are sacrifice outlets, +1/+1 counter manipulation, and life-drain payoffs. It pairs especially well with cards that sacrifice creatures repeatedly, or with effects that remove its +1/+1 counter so undying can trigger again. It also works well with cards that care about creatures dying or entering the battlefield.
Key mechanics it supports are ETB damage, recursion, and death-trigger loops. Practical tip: play it in decks that can reliably sacrifice it or recur it, since that turns the card from a solid threat into a persistent source of pressure and reach.
