Emerge 5BB (You may cast this spell by sacrificing a creature and paying the emerge cost reduced by that creature's mana value.)
When you cast this spell, target opponent reveals their hand. You choose from it a nonland card with mana value 3 or less and a card with mana value 4 or greater. That player discards those cards.
Mox strategy
Distended Mindbender is a strong, high-impact hand-disruption payoff for sacrifice and Eldrazi emerge decks. Its best use is as a midgame swing card: if you can sacrifice a creature with decent mana value, you get a 5/5 plus a brutal 2-for-1 that strips both a cheap answer and a key top-end threat from the opponent’s hand.
It synergizes best with token makers, recursive creatures, and creatures with useful death triggers, since they help reduce the emerge cost without losing much value. It’s especially nasty alongside Eldrazi-tempo or black sacrifice shells that can force a discard while developing a large body. Cards that create expendable creatures or recur from the graveyard make it much easier to cast early.
Mechanically, it supports discard control, sacrifice, emerge cost reduction, and hand information advantage. The main drawback is that it’s clunky without fodder, so it shines most in decks built to feed it rather than as a standalone threat.
