W, Give an opponent a nonland card you own from outside the game: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to you or this creature this turn.
Mox strategy
Collector Protector is mostly a casual/build-around card with a very specific, low-power effect. Its main strength is repeatable damage prevention for itself or you, which can matter in slow, defensive decks or as a weird political tool in multiplayer.
It’s strongest when you can reliably satisfy the “give an opponent a nonland card you own from outside the game” cost, which usually means sideboard access in casual games and lots of spare cards to donate. That makes it more of a novelty engine than a competitive option.
Best synergies are with decks that:
- want to stall combat and buy time
- care about repeatedly triggering “outside the game” or card-donation style effects
- can spare a single white mana each turn for incremental protection
Key gameplay use:
- blocks well thanks to 2/5
- can soak small pings and combat damage over multiple turns
- works best in long games where tempo matters less than attrition
Overall: niche, defensive, and mostly for fun or thematic Commander/casual decks rather than optimized play.
