Mox strategy
Anhelo, the Painter is a strong Grixis spells-matter commander that turns your first instant or sorcery each turn into a built-in copy effect. Its best use case is in decks with lots of cheap interaction, cantrips, burn, and high-impact sorceries, since copying spells for free creates huge tempo and card advantage. Deathtouch plus a 1/3 body makes it awkward to attack into or block, helping it stick around.
Best synergies are with sacrifice fodder that has power 2 or more, like token makers, Treasure creatures, or expendable utility creatures, since casualty 2 is the key cost. It works especially well with spells that are already efficient when copied: draw spells, extra-turn effects, removal, and sweepers. It also supports a play pattern of casting on opponents’ turns, since “first instant or sorcery each turn” means you can potentially trigger casualty multiple times in a round if you have enough mana and fodder.
Main mechanics it enables are spell copying, sacrifice outlets, and instant-speed control. In deck building, prioritize cheap creatures to sacrifice, ways to create tokens, and a high density of impactful instants and sorceries so Anhelo consistently converts one spell into two.
