First strike
When this creature enters, you get EE (two energy counters). Then if you cast it from your hand, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. You may cast that card by paying an amount of E equal to its mana value rather than paying its mana cost.
Mox strategy
Amped Raptor is a high-impact aggressive value creature. On-rate 2/1 first strike for 2 mana makes it a good early attacker and blocker, but the real strength is the cast trigger: if you cast it from your hand, it generates 2 energy and can turn into a free spell from the top of your library.
Best use cases are low-curve red decks, energy shells, and decks with a dense mix of cheap spells plus a few medium-cost hits to cheat into play. It is strongest when your deck is built to maximize the chance of hitting a useful nonland with mana value 2 or less, or when you can generate and spend extra energy efficiently.
Key synergies:
- Energy payoffs and enablers: cards that produce, store, or spend energy make the trigger more flexible.
- Cheap interaction and permanents: increases the odds the exiled card is castable and immediately useful.
- Cascade-like game plans: benefits from playing a high density of impactful nonland spells, since it effectively acts as a mini-impulse cast.
Practical tip: play it in a deck where both halves matter—solid combat stats if you miss, and a meaningful free spell if you hit. It’s best when your average mana value is low and your hits are high-value tempo plays.
