Mox strategy
Acolyte of Affliction is a solid value engine for grindy BG decks. It gives immediate card selection by milling 2, then often recoups a key permanent from the graveyard, making it especially good in self-mill, recursion, and sacrifice shells. A 2/3 body also helps stabilize early.
Best with permanents you want to reuse: creatures with enters-the-battlefield effects, utility enchantments/artifacts, planeswalkers, and lands if your graveyard setup supports them. It gets much stronger when you can reliably stock the graveyard with dredge, surveil, fetchlands, milling, or self-sacrifice.
Key synergy patterns: repeatable recursion loops, value creatures like Eternal Witness-style effects, and graveyard-focused commanders or decks that want to turn milling into advantage. Its biggest strength is inevitability in slower games; its main limitation is needing a stocked graveyard and being weaker if your deck has too few high-impact permanents to buy back.
